The Ceremony-When Eric Peterson (Scott Seegmiller) opens up a mysterious book left behind by a roommate, he unlocks a powerful curiosity within himself that cannot be contained. After growing increasingly disturbed, Eric then discovers he is trapped. James Palmer writes and directs this mystifying, frightening thriller that explores the power of unexplainable occurrences. Art Roberts and Jeremy Grant Horton co-star.

Slowest movie ever! But, it does somehow keep you interested so, you'll keep watching. Was worth watching.

Blackout-When three people wind up trapped in an elevator, it seems like a mere nuisance at first. But with no light and little hope of help arriving, the situation turns tense -- then becomes a nightmare when one of them is revealed to be a serial killer. As nerves fray and emotions intensify, the ordeal devolves into pure animal survival. Amber Tamblyn, Aidan Gillen and Armie Hammer star in this unnerving psychological thriller.

Dark movie. Not bad, not excellent. Intense torture scene.

Couldn't find a good trailer.

My Little Eye-Five young people must bunk together for six months as part of a reality TV show that will award its winner $1 million. The catch is that if even one person leaves, no one wins a cent. As the players -- brainiac Danny (Stephen O'Reilly), loafer Rex (Kris Lemche), frat boy Matt (Sean CW Johnson), perfect Emma (Laura Regan) and aspiring actress Charlie (Jennifer Sky) -- settle in, things turn ugly when one of them is found dead.

Decent movie. Good twists.

Voices (Korean, Subtitled)-As her family and friends inexplicably turn on each other -- husbands attacking wives, friends murdering friends, and even parents slaying children -- a young woman begins to fear that she will be the next victim. When some of the murderers reveal that they heard strange voices commanding them to kill, the girl realizes that no one can be trusted and no one is safe, in this South Korean horror film based on the popular comic book series.

Pretty good movie, some scary scenes. Very bloody movie. Great scene of main character laying in bed with blood hovering above her and a creepy face coming out of it. Very twisty and one that makes you think afterwards.

Bruiser-Henry Creedlow (Jason Flemyng) awakens to a nightmare world in which he has no face, features or identity. Stripped of everything he's ever known, he sets out on a bloody rampage to destroy the people who've betrayed him, including his philandering wife (Nina Garbiras), his belittling boss (Peter Stormare) and his evil best friend (Andrew Tarbet). Fans of horror-punk rockers the Misfits will relish their role in the film's gritty climax.

Was cool to see The Misfists in this movie. Since it was a George A. Romero movie, I thought it would be excellent. It was ok. I like the revenge part of it. Not a horrible film. Just wasn't as great as I hoped it would be.

The Perfect Witness-When struggling filmmaker Mickey Gravatski (Wes Bentley) inadvertently records a notorious serial killer (Mark Borkowski) in the middle of a murderous act, he decides to use the footage to blackmail the madman into being the subject of a disturbing new documentary. Directed by Thomas Dunn, this unsettling psychological thriller explores the dark side of the human psyche and the depths to which one man will sink to make his mark.

Ok, so you film a serial killer kill someone, then you blackmail him so you can make a documentery about him. Stuuuupid! This was a good movie but, you just can't help yourself from thinking how stupid Mickey is for even doing this, I mean, what did you think was going to happen, getting close to a serial killer? Hello?

Vile-Four friends are kidnapped and brought to a decrepit house, where they're locked in a room with six strangers. They have 24 hours to mount an escape, but they must endure excruciating pain in order to win their freedom.

A definate "torture porn". Good story and decent ending. Do not watch if you are sensitive to torture scenes, that is pretty much the whole movie. It actually left me asking myself, if I would go that far to stay alive. Sticking your arm in hot boiling water, or leaning up against a hot iron...I think I would rather die than go what these people go through. But, you never know.

Good movie, thumbs up!

Visable Secret(Asian, Subtitled)-Peter is head over heels in love with a woman he's just met named June. The couple's love grows quickly and is so supercharged that Peter pays scant attention when June casually mentions that she sees poltergeists. But it isn't long before Peter notices more than a few bumps in the night and must force himself to look into her mysterious and troubled past ... that is, if they're to have any future together!

My first real Asian B Horror flick. Must say, it started out great. Two minutes into the movie we already have a headless body walking around...yes walking. Worth watching if you like comedy mixed in with your horror.

Spliced (The Wisher)-Freddie Krueger, eat your heart out! Mary is your average teenager who loves horror movies. So when she hears about the newest scary flick, she knows she has to see it. But when Mary catches a glimpse of the movie's villain -- a deformed killer known as The Wisher -- she runs from the theater in fright. Unfortunately, The Wisher follows her home and begins invading her dreams and making her darkest wishes come true!

One word. Lame. The lead actress in this is so annoying, and horrible, she is the reason this movie is a horror. I chose this film because I thought it pertained to myself but, it really wasn't a good story at all. Spare yourselves!

Occupant-When his late grandmother leaves him her rent-controlled apartment in New Your, Danny Hill movies in...only to discover that he isn't exactly alone. Suddenly, home sweet home doesn't seem so sweet in this creepy thriller.

Very good movie, though, it left me wondering...which is a good thing. It was able to make shoes creepy, imagine that! lol. Definitely, a weird dark movie that leaves you hanging. Least in my opinion. Anyone seen it? Any thoughts on it?

Slim till Dead (Subtitled)-Writer-director-producer Wong Jing's take on the Hong Kong trend of "slimming" takes a gruesome turn as a series of young film stars begin turning up missing, later to  be discovered dead and emaciated.

I really liked this movie...it was not reall a horror to me but, the main character is such a lovable guy, you really enjoy watching him. The story line was pretty good, and, it did have a bit of a twist in the end. Not much gore, so, good for those who are sensitive to that.

Dread-For a college study, a student interviews people about their darkest fears, then uses the data to methodically torment his hapless subjects.

Very dark movie. Very good. Actually got emotion in some scenes.
Thumbs up.

The Final-Using gruesome forms of torture, an unpopular high school kid leads a group of outcasts taking revenge on the "cool" kids who've always harassed them.

This is one I really thought I'd enjoy. I am sure most of us have been bullied at some time in our lives, and have wanted the tables to turn on the bully. Of course, in this movie they go to the extreme. Was disappointed on how it ended but, well worth watching.

(I am not advocating anyone torturing their bullies by any means, but maybe it wouldn't hurt if all bullies had to watch this movie)
Thumbs up.

Cinderella (Korean, Subtitled)-The daughter of successful female plastic surgeon, the teenage Hyun-soo (Se-kyeong Shin) is the envy of her art school friends, who all want the perfect face. But after her friends go under the knife and start dying mysterious deaths, Hyun-soo must investigate her mother's darkest secrets. This suspenseful -- and gruesome -- horror film is South Korean director Man-dae Bong's second feature.

Great movie. Disturbing scenes. Scary moments. And a nice twist in the end.
Thumbs up!

Tuesday Sept 4th 2012

Uninhabited (Australia)-A young couple go to a remote and deserted coral island for a camping holiday, only to find that the island is inhabited by a ghost seeking retribution for a past outrage.

Slowest movie ever. Not scary at all. You actually wish someone would die violently, just for something to happen. The ending sucked too.
Thumbs down.
3 Extremes (Asian, Subtitled)- An Asian cross-cultural trilogy of horror films from accomplished indie directors.

Since this is 3 stories in one movie, I will talk about each one..
Dumplings-In Hong Kong, Aunt Mei is a cook famous for her home-made rejuvenation dumplings, based on a millenarian recipe prepared with a mysterious ingredient that she brings directly from China. The former TV star Mrs. Li visits Mei aiming her dumplings to recover her youth and become attractive again to her wolf husband Mr. Li.

Very disturbing story. Not recommended for everyone. I will spoil the story as a warning. Aunt Mei uses aborted babies in the dumplings. It does get graphic, showing the fetus'. The sounds of Mrs. Li eating them, is grotesque. At first, I wasn't sure that Mrs. Li even was aware of what she was eating. But, it becomes clear that she does. The ending was done very well. Mrs. Li discovers she is pregnant, something she has always wanted, but, what will she want the baby for? You have to watch to find out! They did turn this into a full length film. I will watch it soon.

Cut-A successful film director and his wife are kidnapped by an extra from his own films, who forces the director to play his sadistic games. If he fails, his wife's fingers will be chopped off one by one every five minutes.

I really enjoyed this one. Actually even has some humor in it. Great story. The extra does this to the director, not because the director was mean to him, but because he was actually nice to him. The extra explains that it is because he is a good man, and how it pisses him off, and that is why he is doing this to the director and his wife. His complaint is, not only is the director handsome and rich but, is a good man as well, and that that is unfair. But is the director the good man everyone thinks he is?

Box-A soft spoken young woman has a bizarre recurring nightmare about being buried in a box in the snow. Searching for her long lost sister, she realizes her dreams and reality may possibly be connected.

This story was bizarre and very confusing. Didn't really get it. Didn't enjoy it. Was a bad way to end the series.

3 Extremes II (Asian, Subtitled)-Same as 3 Extremes I. Three short stories by different directors.
Memories-A woman wakes up on a street without memory. A husband cannot remember why his wife left him. The woman wanders the streets trying to contact the only phone number she has on her. The husband see's her ghost in his apartment and discovers her mutilated body in a large bag in his home (Korea).

Was an ok story. Predictable.

The Wheel-Extravagant cursed puppets cause fires, deaths, physical pain and a little girl to be possessed (Thailand).

Horrible story. Boring. Not scary. Not good.

Going Home-A father goes in search of his missing son and is abducted by a strange man. The strangers wife has died of cancer three years prior but he keeps her in his apartment under the impression she will 'wake up' (Hong Kong).

Now this one was worth watching the other two. Awesome story. Great twist at the end.
Sorry no trailer.

Monday Sept 3rd 2012

Shutter (Thai Version, Subtitled)-A young photographer and his girlfriend discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after a tragic accident. They soon learn that you can not escape your past.
I have seen the American version, as well. It has been quite a long time, and I do not remember it being that great. However, the Thai version is very good. There are scenes in this movie I will never forget. It is slow going but the last 45 mins is well worth watching the whole thing.
Thumbs up.
The Ghost (Korean, Subtitled, Original Title "Ryeong, Dead Friend")-A teenage girl suffering from amnesia discovers that she is somehow connected to a group of people who are being killed off one by one by a vengeful ghost.
This one wasn't scary in my opinion. But, it has a nice twist at the end.
Neutral on this one, wasn't bad, but wasn't great.

Enter If You Dare

Welcome to my horror diary.
This blog will be a record of horror movies I've watched and what I thought of them. Since, I have seen so many, I will post my daily movies watched and will add a movie I watched in the past. I am by no means an expert critic. These are just my personal opinions and thoughts on the movies.
I like all horror movies, for the most part. The more gory it is, the more I usually like it. I will admit that paranormal movies freak me out the most.
Horror movies with surprise endings, are a favorite. I love it when its over and I am sitting there with my mouth opened, shocked. And its a good one when I have to go turn a light on so I don't scare myself. lol
I really enjoy talking about them. So, I do hope people will join in, recommend something I haven't seen, or just discuss how a movie made them feel or what they took from it.
